How Fluids Make the Magic Happen in MOVA Creations
Solar cells and magnets may power the movement, but there’s one more vital element that brings the mesmerising rotation of MOVA Creations to life: fluid. If you’ve ever held a MOVA Globe, you’ll have noticed there are two distinct parts—the outer transparent shell and the inner globe that turns within a clear liquid. That fluid is no simple detail—it’s the unsung hero of the MOVA illusion.
Let’s dive into how fluids are cleverly used in MOVA Globes to create seamless motion and visual enchantment.
Why Use Fluid at All?
From the start, the goal of MOVA Creations was clear: design a product that looks like a miniature world spinning effortlessly with no power source in sight. To create this seemingly impossible effect, we relied on the remarkable properties of fluids.
While solar cells and magnets provide the energy and control needed for movement, the fluid acts as the invisible bridge—enhancing motion, hiding inner mechanics, and helping maintain the illusion of a smooth, floating globe.
Finding the Right Fluid – Hint: It’s Not Water
The fluid inside MOVA Globes isn’t water. In fact, it’s a proprietary, specially engineered liquid that meets a unique set of demands:
-
Optically clear – so you can’t see it at all
-
Toxic-free – safe and environmentally responsible
-
Free of colour or impurities – to maintain the purity of the illusion
-
Highly lubricating – minimises friction for smooth, continuous rotation
Much like motor oil keeps an engine running without resistance, the fluid in a MOVA Globe reduces friction between the turning inner globe and the outer shell—making the signature glide possible.
The principle of refraction is when a wave changes direction when it enters a different medium – think of a spoon appearing bent when placed at an angle in water. In the case of our products, it’s between what you see outside and the fluid inside that creates the projection.
Creating the Illusion: Refraction at Work
Here’s where the magic truly takes shape. The fluid has a specific index of refraction, meaning it bends light in just the right way to visually “project” the globe’s design onto the outer shell.
This optical trickery is similar to how a straw looks bent in a glass of water. It’s why you don’t perceive the inner sphere rotating inside a clear casing—you see one whole, seamless world turning by itself.
Without this effect? You’d notice a smaller sphere visibly moving within a transparent ball—not nearly as captivating.
What About the MOVA Cube?
While the fluid in MOVA Globes focuses on smooth rotation, the fluid in MOVA Cubes is all about buoyancy.
The MOVA Cube fluid is carefully selected for its density to create the floating effect.
Here’s the difference:
-
In MOVA Globes, fluid reduces friction for rotation.
-
In MOVA Cubes, fluid matches the density of the globe to make it float.
By carefully matching the density of the globe to that of the surrounding fluid, the sphere becomes perfectly suspended within the cube. If the fluid were too dense, the globe would float upward; not dense enough, and it would sink. Striking the perfect balance makes it appear as if the globe is levitating in the centre of the cube.
Function Meets Wonder
The fluids used in MOVA Creations are more than just practical—they’re part of the magic. With carefully crafted chemical and optical properties, these fluids allow MOVA products to:
✅ Rotate smoothly
✅ Conceal inner components
✅ Create stunning visual illusions
✅ Appear to defy gravity in cubes
By blending physics, chemistry, and design, MOVA fluid technology transforms motion into wonder.
