“You paint what you like, what intrigues you, what speaks to you.” – Robin Konieczny

A Life in Art

Robin Koni’s journey into the world of painting began at an early age. He fondly recalls a childhood memory of drawing an aeroplane in primary school and being surprised by the reaction it received. That moment sparked a lifelong passion.

“I just did it. What’s all the fuss about? Maybe I should do some more…”

Today, Koni continues to paint every day, feeling deeply fortunate to be able to pursue what he loves for a living.

The Evolution of His Work

As time has passed, Koni believes his art has grown in tandem with his life experiences, gaining depth and emotional resonance. His personality, he admits, is inseparable from his art — although his wife would be quick to point out that he’s much neater in his painting than around the house!

He prefers working with watercolours, drawn to their immediacy and the layering process.

“I never got into oils – I’m far too impatient. They just take too long to dry.”

When facing creative blocks, there’s one solution that always works: surfing. A quick ride on the waves refreshes his mind and reignites his creativity.

Inspirations: On the Easel and Off

Koni’s artwork is influenced by his love of the sea, music, and great food. His favourite creative fuel?

  • Food: Mexican cuisine

  • Drink: Bitter shandy

  • Song: Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd

Art in Motion: The MOVA Globe

Robin’s Sea Life MOVA Globe is a dynamic expression of his ocean-themed artwork. He describes seeing his work in motion as an exciting, almost cinematic experience:

“You catch a passing glimpse of it. It catches the eye, then moves to reveal more, and then more.”

Looking Back (and Forward)

If you could go back to another artistic time period, which one would you go to?

Pre B.C. Greece. How on earth did they sculpt those statues? Mind-bending!

Which artist, living or dead, would you like to hang out with for a day, and why?

Salvadore Dali because he was completely nuts.

Would you re-do or change any of your finished artworks?

All of them. After time, you look back and there is always something you can improve, always. It’s a universal truth.

A Brief Biography

Born in 1962 to a Polish cobbler and an English mother in Kent – affectionately known as The Garden of England – Robin Konieczny developed an early fascination with the natural world. He spent much of his youth sketching during long cycle rides and finding inspiration in London’s galleries.

After completing a four-year Illustration course at Medway College of Art and Design with honours, Robin joined the renowned MGL Licensing company. There, he honed his skills and nurtured his distinctive style. Now based in Whitstable, a seaside town rich in coastal scenery, Robin draws daily inspiration from the skies and seascapes surrounding him.

When not painting, you’ll likely find him surfing, snorkelling, canoeing, or simply enjoying the water — a lifestyle that’s beautifully reflected in his oceanic-themed art.
