Since its humble beginnings in 1978 as a small hardware shop, David Shuttle has blossomed into a sophisticated and highly regarded retailer in the UK. What began as a local business has transformed over the decades into a multi-location operation with a robust online presence — all while maintaining the personal, family-run service that’s at the heart of its success.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Catherine Mullen, E-Commerce Executive at David Shuttle, to learn more about the company’s remarkable journey and their ongoing relationship with MOVA Creations.
MOVA: Tell us a little bit about your business.
David Shuttle has been trading in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire for nearly 40 years. From the opening of the first store in 1978, the business has seen a number of important milestones, including the launch of www.davidshuttle.com in 2008. To this day, the business is still family-run, and we continue to offer a diverse product range — including fine dining items, home accessories and jewelry — which make unusual and unique gifts.
How did you discover MOVA Globes and why did you decide to carry them in your stores?
We have stocked MOVA Globes since 2010, when David Shuttle himself had a chance meeting with the UK distributor. David immediately loved the concept, the designs and the intriguing technology.
What is a market town, and what makes Beaconsfield unique?
A ‘market town’ is the name for a settlement with the legal right to hold markets. Beaconsfield is a market town which sprang up on the road between Oxford and London in the 12th century, and today you can reach London Marylebone by train in just 25 minutes.
Beaconsfield also has a few claims to fame: the town was the home constituency of Victorian Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli; it is home to the oldest original model village in the world, Bekonscot; and children’s author Enid Blyton lived here when she wrote some of her most famous books, such as the Famous Five and Noddy series.

A special, bright display of the entire MOVA Creations line.
How do customers typically react to MOVA Globes?
We usually find people react with wonder. They often assume the rotation is powered by electricity or a battery-operated motor, and can’t quite understand how the globe spins so smoothly on its stand. Before explaining the technology, we like to tease that the globes are magic.
How do you deliver exceptional customer service?
Our staff is friendly, approachable and highly knowledgeable about our products. We aim to build genuine relationships with our customers by offering a more personal service — even in e-commerce, which can often feel impersonal.
If we don’t have exactly what a customer is looking for, we’re happy to suggest alternatives or arrange special orders. We always work closely with customers to meet their deadlines and specific requirements.
Which MOVA Globe design is your favourite?
We love the way the Antique Cassini White globe tells a story of adventure and exploration, mapping the three voyages of Captain James Cook.
What are you most proud of, and what’s next for David Shuttle?
We’re incredibly proud of the feedback we receive from customers through our Feefo review service. It’s rewarding to know that customers appreciate the personal touches we include — like the chocolates we add to every shipped order.
Looking ahead, we aim to continue growing while staying true to the values we were founded on: high-quality products and exceptional customer service.
David Shuttle has become one of the UK’s finest retail establishments, and we’re proud to see MOVA Globes thriving in their stores. Whether shopping in-store or online, customers are sure to find something truly unique.
