The Artistic Journey
In 2010, Wendy Gold launched her brand ImagineNations™, a creative venture that reimagines vintage globes and maps into decorative, sustainable artworks. By repurposing recycled materials, Wendy has brought a fresh, whimsical perspective to traditional cartography.
Her designs span recycled lithographs, wooden canvas maps, and interactive push-pin travel maps—all imbued with vintage charm and imaginative storytelling.
In 2016, Wendy opened her first physical studio and storefront in San Anselmo, California, giving fans the opportunity to engage with her art in person and even co-create bespoke designs alongside her.
Inspiration and Themes
Wendy’s childhood love for arts and crafts blossomed under the influence of a creative babysitter. Since then, her artwork has revolved around themes such as:
-
Travel and adventure
-
Nature’s beauty
-
Nostalgic elements from bygone eras
Her style reflects a quirky, whimsical take on the world—often playful, always thought-provoking.
Artistic Technique
Wendy is known for her decoupage technique, layering vintage ephemera and mixed media on moving canvases, particularly globes.
“I like to tell stories in motion.”
The Butterfly MOVA Globe is a perfect example of this philosophy—its serene motion paired with delicate butterfly designs evokes transformation, freedom, and global unity.
Artistic Preferences and Rituals
Creative fuel?
-
Food: Sushi
-
Drink: Green tea
-
Music: The Grateful Dead
When facing creative blocks, Wendy simply steps back, allowing time and fresh perspective to reframe the problem. She’s constantly seeking visual inspiration, often found in flea markets and nature walks.
Time Travel & Artistic Heroes
If Wendy could live in any artistic era, she’d head straight for the 1970s, captivated by the music and eclectic creativity of that decade.
Her dream artistic companion for a day? Andy Warhol, the pop art icon.
“He is so interesting and a genius.”
The Perfectionist’s Eye
Despite her success, Wendy admits she’s often tempted to revise her finished works.
“Sometimes I start over if the patterning doesn’t sit right with me.”
If she had to choose just one subject to paint for the rest of her life, it would undoubtedly be butterflies—symbols of metamorphosis that align perfectly with her nature-inspired, whimsical worldview.
